Subject: is he interested?

I really like this guy but I don't know if he likes me. All last week he stared at me and then I approached him last Friday and we talked. He got a huge smile when I said hi to him and kinda flirted. The thing is Monday he hung around my locker and kept looking at me but when I headed over there he walked away. Then later he kept looking at me but I didn't go talk to him or anything. Tuesday he didn't look at me, Wednesday he did once but talked to another girl. Thursday he looked at me again but talked to other girl. Friday he kept looking at me and I went and talked to him after school. He said hi, but wouldn't look at me so I turned around and was heading out the door when he mentioned his volleyball game to me. I said good luck and continued on but he followed me and asked if I was coming to watch, I said I had to work and he said, "oh well, you won't be missing much" I said see ya. Is he into me, if he is then why did he act like I wasn't around for two days and talk to the other girl. I'm so confused. Should I pursue him despite competition of other girl. How can I tell, is he just being friendly?
