Subject: is he into me?

I like this guy alot, I'm in grade 11 and he's in grade 12. The thing is that my friend says he stares at me a lot, and when were around each other our eyes constantly meet for long periods of time. The thing is that he seems shy because I talk to him but I always have to say hi first. One time, I asked him how he was doing and he didn't seem interested in talking, he wouldn't look at me or anything, but then when I was walking away he mentioned his volleyball game and asked if I was coming to watch. I couldn't because I had to work and then after that I could tell he wanted to talk to me. All of a sudden, he started talking to another girl in my grade a lot, every one says they're friends but howcome he can easily talk to her and not me. For a day and a half it was like he didn't even notice me, and then today he couldn't take his eyes off me. I don't get it. Does he like me? Should I talk to him?
