Subject: upgrading from Palm 3 to Tungsten E + new Zire

I have used a Palm 3 for several years and now want to upgrade to a Tungsten E. I also want to buy a Zire (entry level) for my wife (technophobe).
Do I have to uninstall the existing PC program? What happens to all my old documents/data? How do I run two pda's on one computer?
I have of course tried asking all this of Palm - God help me! I think they must hate customers. Just a machine message of total irrelevance (shop) or death by questionnaire! ("help" pages.) I would be very grateful if someone could advise me.
