It depends on the condition of the penny, but a 1943 copper or bronze penny is very valuable. There was a man who bid $82,000 (see: http://www.naplesnews.com/today/business/coin21.htm)

The reason it is so valuable is because that year they used zinc and nickel or steel to make pennies instead of copper. They used the copper for war matters.
