This is the first year in a long time that there is no team that looks to be the favorite in either league. Here are my predictions.
WRC North
1. Mayfield-Great Senior class. Started out great last year but didn't end up too good. It's either them or Solon, but I have to go with the senior leadership of Mayfield on that game.
2. Solon- Produce an outstanding team every year, and this year is no different. It will be tough to contain Sean Miller, and their D will be extremely tough w/ Hallman, Miller, and Echan. Most people are quick to count out this team after they lost some great players from last years State Runner-up team. Will also have one of the best junior classes in the state that will help miller and co.
3. Nordonia- Solid team every year. Will be a surprise to many teams, don't ever count them out. Macon is tough, Stein is tough, Kennedy is tough, and Sims is a man among boys on the line. W/ enough help from the QB position they can put a string of wins together.
4. Brush- Roy Hall, and McGee are outstanding. Hall is ranked as one of the 50 best athletes in the country. If you havn't seen him play yet, I advise you to go see one of their games. Could easily knock off Nordonia for the third spot, also, don't count this team out.
5. Kenston-Don't know much about them, always a decent team. Let's see if this sophomore class is what I've heard they are.
6. Twinsburg- No Mike Smith, no Herbie Jones= a huge chunk of the team gone. I've heard that they have a LB that didn't play last year that is supposed to be pretty good, and Mike Smith's younger brother is supposed to be pretty good. Not as bad as I originally thought, but need a few more years before this team is at the top of their confernce.
WRC South
1. Hudson- Tons of talent returning, need some people to fill some positions. See if Toney Morton can produce half the numbers that Diebold did, and See if Knepp, Johnson, and Dwiggins can fill in for Armul. O-line is always the weak link, but I decided on Hudson over Falls and Kent for the South.
2. Falls- Always big, always play hard, and are used to winning. Don't know if they can win the South this year, I think it is somebody elses turn to win it. Lost an awesome running back in Scott Froelich, but little brother is there to keep them going. May have the best TE in either league, and the defense is anchored by their D line, as well as Froelich and Cook.
3. Kent- Marquis Parham is the real deal. He has a great blocker in front of him in Brett Rogers, and if he gets a good linemen or two, he could put up some amazing numbers. Their whole backfield is returning, but need a QB to step up. Their defense is also anchored by Parham and Rogers. Could easily knock off either Falls or Hudson.
4. Stow- Let's face it, aren't the usual Stow team at the Varsity level. After having a decent year last year, with a great team, I just don't think they want to win. They had more talent than Falls did, but choked in the big game and got dominated by Falls. Line is always pretty good, don't see many bright spots other than a few players both ways.
5. Ravenna- Andrew Dukes got a year of Varsity under his belt, and produced some respectable numbers as a sophomore. Marlon Jones can be good if he wants to, but I'm not sure he will want to since his team doesn't look like it has a bright future.
6. Barberton- Lost an awesome running back in Darren Harris, and from what i hear Antonio Pittman is pretty good. He has blazing speed, but I don't see him getting many holes to break through with his offensive line. Their receivers will be decent, but they don't have a very good QB.
I hope my predictions aren't true, because I hate Hudson, but they are a great team. I am hoping that this year is even better than last year. Good luck to all of the teams. If you don't like my predictions, don't knock me, just write what you think will happen instead, I tried to make these w/ some info to back them up, please use information w/ your predictions too.
