Subject: Weekend Birding (warblers etc @ crane creek)

Sunday morning was very good for birding Crane Creek. Arriving early seems to be best since I tried Saturday afternoon and did not do well. The prevailing wind direction would not indicate new birds crossing the lake over night.

12 warbler species includeing Connecticut, Cape May and Canada. The Canada was very cooperative as was a yellow- billed cuckoo feeding on sumac berries (I thought they liked insects). Should have great photos of both. Also had red-eyed and warbling vireos as well as a possible yellow-throated vireo. Also a black bellied plover flew over the causeway.

This was at least as good and probably better for land bird migrants than any day I experienced this spring.

Brian
