Subject: Whitefish Point

Top Ten reasons for visiting Whitefish Point last weekend:

10. All 3 scoters - White-wings were lifers for Dennis and Martha
9. Oldsquaw - a lifer for Richard
8. Fall colors - not a bird, but they were absolutely dazzling
7. Evening grosbeaks at the feeders - this one's for Chuck
6. Red crossbill - a few overhead
5. Merlin - perhaps my favorite hawk
4. American avocet - 1st record for Whitefish Point
3. Northern goshawk - close looks at 1 or 2 birds as they cruisd the point
2. Black-backed woodpecker - a stellar north woods bird
1. Smith's longspur - a lifer for 80% of the group and a rare bird anytime in Michigan
