Subject: Red Crossbills and more

A round of golf this morning at Giant Oak golf club in Temperance, MI (Monroe Co) proved great for birding and lousy for birdIES (only 1).

There was heavy diurnal migration for the entire 4 hours I was there.

Most notable was a flock of 14 RED CROSSBILLS flying overhead, calling. They were flying due south.

Other birds moving were:

Purple finch 50+ in 2 flocks
Horned larks LOTS
RW blackbirds lots more
pipits 10 or 11
Snow bunting 2
Lapland longspur 2

On the course itself were a handful of Red-breasted nuthatches, and plenty of Golden-crowned kinglets and juncos.

Greg
