Subject: Algonquin pics

For
those who were privileged enough to join the Algonquin trip, Sunday morning
turned out to be very cold but full of wonderful sightings. First was this Spruce
grouse along the side of the road, just off route 60.

This bird was so cooperative that we were able to get within 10 feet of the
bird as it fed in the side gravel.

Not far from the Spruce Grouse,
we stood in the sun along a nicely wooded section by a lake. Standing primarily
in the sun to keep warm, a Gray Jay was spotted across the lake. The bird flew
a quarter mile across the lake right toward us and landed on my hand.

The group stood there for
15 minutes as five birds took treats from our hands. This Jay liked the cranberries
that Terri Anderson offered.

Finally, when we arrived
back at the camp to pack up for home, Martha Johns smelled out this Black-backed
Woodpecker. Here it shows off its yellow crown.
