Subject: Massive movement of migrants

There was an incredible movement of neotropical migrants last night/this morning.

From 5:30-6:45am this morning, I counted the following calling birds flying over my house:

Swainson's thrush 646
Veery 84
Gray-cheeked thrush 28

Warbler, spp. App. 2,000*

*This is only an estimate. In the first 5 minutes of listening, I counted nearly 200 warbler chips (I'm not good enough to ID the warblers to species by their nocturnal flight notes). And since it did not not slow down, I simply multiplied it out and concentrated on the thrushes.

Even more amazing? The listening conditions were less than ideal, as crickets and car noise lingered in the background.
