Subject: Oak Openings Field Trip Report, June 5

Matt Anderson led another very rewarding field trip for the breeding birds of Oak Openings Metropark and surrounding Port Authority lands. Highlights were Grasshopper, Lark and Henslow's sparrows, Pileated and Red-headed woodpeckers, Summer and Scarlet tanagers, Yellow-breasted chat, and Yellow-throated vireo. A fine late migrant Olive-sided flycatcher was a life bird for some participants. In addition, a nice stand of Yellow Lady-slipper (orchid) was found along the parkway. Last, but not least, the mosquito viewing was definately the best so far this year.
