Subject: Western Meadowlark

At 3:15 p.m. on April 30 a Western Meadowlark was discovered at Blue Creek Metropark along Schadel Road, one mile south of Whitehouse. The bird was singing from a grassy field on the E side of Schadel between the Sportmen's Club and the quarry pond. After a while it flew to a dandelion-studded grassy knoll in the Sportmen's Club, but continued to sing and could be heard easily from the road. This (new) metropark has good meadow habitat and is full of Eastern Meadowlarks. All three Mimid species were singing along this stretch of Schadel as well.
