Subject: Red-necked grebes anyone??

There has been a significant movement of Red-necked grebes into the lower Great Lakes the last several days. Many birds have been seen around Cleveland, Pelee, Toronto, as well as some spots on lower Lake Huron. Another was seen inland today near Zanesville, OH.

RN grebe is extremely rare in NW Ohio and the Toledo area. Now would be the time to go find one apparently.

Best bets?

For sure, the Bayshore vicinity (from the power plant outflow east to the end of Bayshore road. Be sure to check behind the Supper Club, as well as across the street from the community park a little fartther east) offers hope.

Second on the list I would say would be Consumers Power plant in Erie, MI (exit 5 in MI off of I-75-turn east to the dead-end. Walk through the opening in the fence to the beach, and then to the right, toward the warm water discharge).

Another possibility, but more remote in my opinion would be off of the Toledo Yacht Club parking lot in Point Place off of Summit Street. Morning light is best here, and you have to scope over a rather tall brick wall. People under 6 feet tall should bring a step stool (or at least a phone book!).

Who is good enough to go find one????? Good luck!

Greg
