Subject: Whitefish Point Field Trip II

I will lead a TNA field trip to the great North Woods Nov. 15-17. Specifically, we will bird Whitefish Point and environs, as well as areas in and around Sault Ste. Marie.

Winter finch migration should be in high gear, owls could be starting to show up around the "Soo", Bohemian waxwings will be at their peak, Boreal residents will be the easiest tofind as they are all year, and there should be a rarity or 2 to find as well.

Target birds: Common and Hoary redpolls, Evening and Pine grosbeaks, White-winged and Red crossbills, Pine siskins, Purple finches, Bohemian waxwings, Northern shrike, Rough-legged hawk, Northern goshawk, Spruce grouse, Sharp-tailed grouse, Snowy owl, Northern hawk-owl, Great-gray owl, Black-backed woodpecker, Harlequin duck, Gyrfalcon, and much more.

We should find about 40-50 species....QUALITY and not quantity will be the order of the day.

Will we see ALL of these birds? No. But we will see some combination of them.

We will depart the Toledo area on Fri Nov 15 at 3pm, and return Sunday eveniong by 9:30 or so.

Send me an email for details on carpooling, lodging, and more. Also email me with your reservation. This field trip was not on the TNA list of field trips, thus the advertisement on this board.

Hope you can join us for this great trip!

Greg Links
President, TNA
