Bill, thanks for the thoughtful response. Clearly you have more information and background on this story than those of us getting the details second or third hand. I do find it interesting that you and others already felt confident in the ID from photographic evidence prior to the banding attempt...but even with this, I know there is a mentality to "band it" by some people.

As you mention, all we can hope is to learn something from this unfortunate experience.
