Subject: Good Sedge Wren encounter - Airport

This afternoon, my brother and I observed 3 Sedge Wrens at close range in the field across from the Tol. Express airport. We first heard them calling in the same general area that the Henslow's Sparrow was all spring. Since I have had no good looks at this bird since 1978, we decided to flush them. We flushed 3 birds in a short time frame, one landed on a plant and sang 20 feet from us. At times the birds were as close as 3 feet from us but were very shy.

It was nice to see a bird that for years I've had to listen to in marshes with no way of seeing.

Chuck
