Subject: mardarin duck-Wood County

A mardarin duck has been hanging around one of our ponds for the last week, sometimes alone and occasionally with several wood ducks. I had no idea what it was and had been pouring over books daily, thoroughly baffled as to how this extremely bizarre looking duck wouldn't be in a book until my sister in Cincinnati figured it out by description. I'd missed the picture of its head in the back of the Peterson.

This past week brought other new arrivals for the season include the baltimore oriole, indigo bunting, rose breasted grosbeak, wood thrush, and red eyed vireo. New for our property were 2 fly overs of sand hill cranes.
