From the Yale football blog:

"Devastating news emerged just days ago that Coach Reno is battling CJD, a fatal neurodegenerative disease that typically leads to death in under 14 months".

There is also a link to a fundraiser.

Heartbreaking for the Reno family.

Awful news. Damn. I have never heard of this and wish him and his family the best in facing this challenge.

His final season was like one from a storybook. Wins HYP and Ivy Championships, win against Harvard named national game of the week, earns first League auto bid to the playoffs, beats YSU in maybe the best comeback in the history of the playoffs and plays the eventual national champions to within eight points. All while having his son Dante Reno join him to share the journey as the team's star QB.

Very tragic news indeed, but the way he ended his career while battling this ugly disease couldn't have been written much better. It would make for an inspiring movie. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

Of all incredible achievements Tony Reno had on his tenure as head coach this might have been his finest moment. It is my personal favorite.
