Kevin - I have to agree with you.
I feel silly I've even bothered browsing this website that makes its claims to be pro libertarian. All I've read so far on this LFA website is a bunch of angry writers spewing forth nothing but venom, with not an ounce of conclusive data. Quite frankly I think this website does nothing for the libertarian philosophies and it's party candidates, but make us all look like fools. I'm starting to wonder if it's merely a front for the DFL and Greenies to bait wavering and discontented moderates.
To those of you investigating libertarian principles, please keep searching. Don't buy this rhetoric as standard thinking for libertarians. Most of the writings I've read on this website are passionate, yet inarticulate. Some of what they speak is true, unfortunately none of it is supported with evidence. Most is mass media trash, ideas concocted from the pages of High Times, and CNN.
For those of you looking for some honest libertarian viewpoints, not impassioned stoners, as an introduction I recommend reading Harry Browne's book, "How I found freedom in an unfree world". That book radically soothed my soul and helped me develop a great perpective on government and society at large.
My intentions are not to completely disregard everything published on this website. Some of what is written on this site, in my opinion, is true. It's the stuff that is backed up by providing names, dates, places, events, and motives that is true. Each person has to decide that on their own. But, for a perfect example of trash media look at what Ed Lewis writes and tell me if you can explain exactly what he's making reference to:
"It is time to be kind of blunt about this. Bush lovers ... actually think this incompetent and uncompassionate human being is doing a good job.
"Doing a good job at what? Destroying what remains of the Constitution and its amendments? Destroying all of mankind's faith in the United States of America as the harbinger of freedom? Destroying any semblance of dignity and integrity in government? Destroying the environment one step at a time by helping his oil and other energy sources as he removes environmental controls? Destroying morality by allowing all sorts of atrocities to occur?"
Give us some examples, Ed, of how these things are happening. Indeed if that is occuring, that is horrible. I certainly agree with that. But provide some actual events to support your passionate hatred of President Bush. I didn't vote for him. I'm not a Bush supporter. I'd like to get a person into office that is more like minded to me. And, if the President of the USA is truly as evil as your previous claims make him out to be, for fucks sake, give us the evidence to rally behind you, and don't just say "cause we're in war." Some wars must be fought. I don't know that this war in Iraq is one that must be fought, but if it isn't then provide some substantial proof of why Pres. Bush and VP Cheney gain to profit off this war like so many people claim. Also while you're at it, convince me that Saddam Hussein is not an evil fascist hell bent on profiting off and using the people of his nation to put himself in the lap of luxury. You're the one writing publicly on the WWW making some pretty extreme claims. Back it up, so I can rally behind you as you seem to want.
Finally Ed Lewis, provide a solution for this Middle East oil shit storm the US is in. What would be your solution if you were in charge of the Oral Office? And don't just say "pull out". That's an answer a child could give. There is much more at stake than just "pull out". For example the world's economy dependent on the US-middle east oil trade and ability to barter (due to our strong military, self sufficiency, population diversity, and geographic location in the world). Due you think US trade allies want her to pull out? Hell no they don't. They depend on us to get what they want, just as we depend on the Middle East to get what we want. Who do you want to be the next super power Ed? If not us it will be somebody, I assure you all of that. And if you think we live in a utopian society where people will just start loving each other if we "pull out", wake up. Most of the free world doesn't want us to "pull out".
I appreciate your courage, Ed Lewis, and your passion. It's important not to become the thing you hate the most, Antiochus preaching to hoi polloi.
Good Luck!
