Armadillo are two London-based DJs, Tim Reading and Luke van Boeschoten. The boys met in 1996 at legendary underground party Coalesce and started throwing their own events in 1998. Tim had already been DJing since the early days of hardcore and had overtime developed a fresh, techno-edged house sound. Luke had emerged from ten years of classical musical school with a love for early house sounds and was already promoting and DJing at small student parties in the Capital. Their music can best be described as “sexy, firm house music”. Although if pushed to name specific dance sub-genres it could be summed up as a subtle mix of tech house, breaks and deep, soulful house music with an occasional naughty rough edge to it. Although both Tim and Luke had been DJing separately for several years previous, in 1998 they launched their infamous Armadillo parties and started DJing together under the same name. Since then Armadillo have hosted numerous underground parties in various warehouses and studios across the capital. These have included a “Bank” special in the basement of a disused bank (plenty of suits and secretaries), the porn themed “Stunt Cocks” and a wild carnival special, “La Bateria”. Armadillo parties have always had a fantastic following and have attracted a diverse crowd from London’s underground tech house scene as well as a more glam element who enjoy the thrill of debauched, themed warehouse parties. Over the last four years the Armadillo boys have also been responsible for two carnival soundsystems, the excellent Sigma warehouse parties and during the summer of 2001 they hosted three very special free parties high up on a roof in the heart of London. Between them, they have also played in destinations as far a field as Australia, California and Russia. They are now residents and co-promoters of the Superb Blonde night at Covent Garden’s magnificent AKA bar. Blonde has become the friendliest, most relaxed and funky, Sunday evening affair in London. As residents they have already been joined by guests such Mr C, Tom Middleton (Cosmos), Tim Sheridan (Dope Smugglaz), Terry Francis (Fabric), Nathan Coles, Boo Williams, Dano and 16B. The Sunday vibe that the armadillo boys have created at Blonde has already won the night plaudits from Time Out, Hot Tickets and Mixmag as well as a “Top Night Out” recommendation from The Daily Star. This week's radio show will be a special warm up for BLONDE this Sunday night 21st September at the AKA Bar, London with guests Jon Marsh and Foot Therapy.
