I wanted to like Steve Oemcke, I really did.

I've actually met him, nice guy with plenty of passion for his work, and he has a personality that could serve the show very well. I would not for one moment deny that he has these qualities, just that they are certainly not showing through at the moment.

It's a show with a tight format, and like Tony Barber had to learn the hard way, trying to hard to prove yourself as a personality in your own right in the midst of all the game can never be easy. From what I've seen of Steve O's work as a reporter, he has the smarts to make something of it, and I hope he can make the gig work.

Deal or No Deal? I was never a huge fan of it last year. Thought it was forced and drawn-out. Now, with the half-hour version, it's rushed and empty. Will this show be forever searching for a happy medium?
