Harrington (not Al) to play for IUPUI
August 8, 2003

There will be two members of the Harrington family playing basketball in Indianapolis this season.

While Al Harrington suits up for the Indiana Pacers, his younger brother Harvey will be playing for IUPUI.

Harvey Harrington, who finished his high school career at North Central, recently enrolled at IUPUI after spending two seasons at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla.

"I think he'll really help us. I expect him to play a lot of minutes, and maybe he'll let me use Al a little," coach Ron Hunter joked.

Harrington averaged 11.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists as a sophomore in junior college and was named all-Sun Coast Conference. He averaged 13.6 points and 5.5 rebounds as a freshman.

At 6-6, 245 pounds, he brings power forward size to the Mid-Continent Conference.

"We were recruiting him early, but he told us he was going to play football," said Hunter, whose team is coming off its first NCAA tournament appearance. "A lot of basketball programs wanted him but thought he'd decided to play football."
