This weekend, the Xavier Musketeers will begin their defense of the Atlantic 10 Conference title they won last year. After the A-10 Tournament, XU will enter post-season play for just the fifth time in the history of the program, but never, in any of those previous four seasons, were the Musketeers as poised for success as they are now.

The Xavier women’s team holds the highest national ranking in the program’s history, 12th, in both the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll and the Associated Press Poll. They reached 20 wins faster this year than in any previous season, and, with a record of 25-2, completed the regular season slate of games with more efficiency than the program had ever seen. On Saturday, XU will carry the top seed in the A-10 Tournament into the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University to play the winner of a contest between two lowly seeds in the conference of 11 squads, Massachusets (No. 8) and Rhode Island (No. 9).
