I would love for the series to be in more television markets. Its strange that the older episodes can be screened internationally but that only the color episodes are being syndicated sporadically across the United States.
Being so far away in Australia, we are lucky to be getting it at all I guess, but I am still missing Season 5 episodes in my private colection as our Cable provider only has the first 148 B/W episodes as part of their broadcast rights. These have been seen at least 6 or 7 times over since they began screening on Foxtel in 2001.
Unfortunately, I fear that it will take one of the surviving stars to die before the show's value is deemed marketable again by the powers that be at Viacom. All you can do is keep writing your cable stations, network and non-network affiliates, as well as local stations asking them to play the series. With so many television stations in the United States alone, there is surely a market for reruns of this classic series. What is even more disturbing is that to the distributors of these old programs, all they are interested in is making money from shipping the show to various outlets for screening -- that's the bottom line, to make money. If enough people showed a little effort, maybe the series would get the berth it deserves. That way, the distributors and the fans are kept happy. But as I noted a few months back, they are only handling the Color episodes in the forseeable future. Why is anyone's guess. TV stations just seem to shy away from black and white programming. As we all know though, there are as many episodes in Black and White as there are in Color. Re. the Columbia House subscription service, I am told that this is no longer an option.
