Subject: Navigation equipment on the "Ice Maiden"

Who needs the electronics? Here on the "Ice maiden" all of the navigation is by traditional methods. I use charts and old style navigation equipment. These include an astrolabe, forestaff, backstaff, sextant and other older forms of equipment. None of these have put me wrong yet! I do have binoculars and a telescope. Those who sail with me and are used to using electronics to get from point A to point B are intrigued by the equipment I use. I spend more time explaining how to use the equipment to these people than I actually will use them on the trip in hand.
