One of the best things about the gaff main is that it is so make and break. I think it would be near impossible to sail Macha in close quarters without that rig, and the rig is part of the reason that it's there.

Will the yankee wheel and back into the slip with the main up? That would be very studly and the boat might. Renegade completely refused to back, but yours might not.

Really, it's a more practical suggestion than it might seem.
