That's funny, I was actually looking for a material to make a cockpit awning or possible tent and was seriously considering those Army tents. I saw them on Ebay for cheap. My boat is 22' and has a 7.5' boom, so they'd be a bit narrow and short but for the price and as compared to sunbrella material, I've been thinking about buying an extra set or two and making extensions to the sides and and end so it will fit. Glad to hear they worked out for you.

You may already know about Charles Stock but he's another small boat sailor. His boom tent is really nice and adds a lot of usable space to his tiny boat. He's got some great advice on making the boat comfortable despite the small size.
