Micheal-where do you live in VT? If you are sailing solings on Champlain on the vermont side, you must be out of the International Sailing School/Club. Are you racing out of that club? If not, you should be. There are some good (excellent) sailors in that club, and racing with them is excellent instruction. Yeah, I know it isn't the same as crusing, BUT.. learning to sail solings so that you feel totally comfortable tacking, jibing, setting a chute within inches of another boat that is doing the same will go a long way in developing salty skills. You will also learn a ton about sail trim, and the thousands of combinations of air, water and sail that lead to good boat speed...
