Remember that this very rapid increase for Americans is from MORE than simply increasing cost of oil. The dollar is falling rapidly and so while oil is costing more, at the same time the dollar BUYS LESS - M U C H less, so it's more a function of what 'they'(tm) can get for oil TIMES ( ---x--- ) the decreasing buying power of the dollar. Once oil is even more significantly OFF the dollar standard and routinely traded in other currencies such as the Euro, Ruble etc. then for imported oil, Americans will be required to labor more and more for less fuel and the perks of petro-chemical products, not only because of rising costs, but because of the multiplication factor of currency conversion for purchasing oil (asnd food) in a global market with heavy hitters such as Red China: welcome to global economics. We are not The Economic Super Power. At best. we share some of this in our diminishing capacity as the Ex-Economic hob of the world.

I'm not as concerned with the direct effect of spending more to fill the tank, as much as I am concerned that modern economies thrive on an excellent 'circulatory system' meaning our transportation system in general, which enables us to ship things and transport people cheaply with ease. Not being able to afford replacement parts due to high costs of shipping, diverting oil away from the manufacture of petro-chemical products, such as adhesives, SAILS, resin and other synthetics and most importantly in the face of growning awareness of the fragility of food production, we need to remember that the bounty from modern farming is largely due to petro-chemical fertilizers, farm machinery and insecticides etc. The inability to economically transport the waining food supply to Joe citizen is another huge 'multiplication factor' with ripple effect.

Oh - we could go on, but tightening of the fuel supply - whether based on fact or sheer political avarice, produces much the same effect. Personally, if we were that short of fuel, then I would think that WE would be working with the Canadian oil fields, not allowing the Red Chinese to do so, we would be pumping Alaska etc... We do not or is it that we cannot? Were we quietly out bid? I do wonder. It's not the sort of thing that our controlled media would openly discuss without license.

Who benefits? Follow the money. Either way, it's like a gold mine: "They" get the gold and 'we' get the shaft.
