Subject: Scored a Lifeboat Oar! Well, ofCOURSE I have an "auxillary")

Score!

I was making rounds at the usual 'junk' sales on weekends in this waterman's part of Virginia and asked for the 'biggest oars' they might have. The usual sizes were there. When I mentioned that this was for sculling my sailboat and that what would do nicely would be an old life boat oar, the white haired fellow next to me said he had seen 'some' .... long story short, I went to the used chandlers he sadi, which is now turned tourist gift shop, but in the back yard, high and dry, I found the last stout and firm life boat oar left! That and some other teak bits and pieces, so the old improvised 'temporary' oar is on it's way out and the heavy duty sculling oar is on it's way in as soon as I can rig a serious block & thole pin assembly. IN the meant time, I can lightly use the 'test' fixture used on the much lighter (Home Improvement Center material) Bahamian scull.

RadioRay is a HAPPY sailorman!
