I would have to agree about learning to sail. Sailing classes are nice but there is no reason why you can't just go out there and do it !! I learned the same way. I bought a sailboat because i had always wanted one and I was just an armchair sailor. It took me a few weeks of steady sailing and now I find I can handle almost anything. Best of luck to you.

P.S. start out in a protected bay somewhere. I started in my boats sailing dinghy around the bay and had a ball.
