Eric also wanted to play rhythm, so it was a mutually enjoyable transition. I had always played rhythm, behind Wally, and did a great deal of the lead vocals in the early bands. As the band became a national act with Eric fronting and singing most of the tunes, our switch made sense and worked well, I felt. I became much more in tune with what Jim did on drums and that brought a new level of awareness of how a great rhythm section can drive a band. And I enjoyed that also.
