Yeah my opinion doesn't mean squatt...but I'll give it, Briefly. Honestly, Overall I'm gonna give Dave's CD a 7/10 (seven out of ten).
My Favorite song is "Tell Me Girl". I like the sound of Rickenbacker Guitar's and this song has got it down. It's got great Commercial appeal.
Next Fav. is "Sooner or Later". Maybe it's my ear, but I think this song is "WAY" better than what I'm hearing. I'm NOT knocking the Production but I'm hearing more of an UP-tempo "Rock" ballad or song that could be a GREAT song w/ a bit more (harder edge) on the guitar parts. It sound's too "Eagles-like". NOT that the Eagle's stereotype is bad. I just think, if the Guitar 'Attack' was a bit harder driving and the Piano was dropped (for sure) it would sound better...just my ears, Man.
Next Fav. "Someone to Shine For". Again, a VERY cool tune. It just need's a stronger (more edgy) Guitar. Overall, the song carries itself.
Alot of this Disc has got some "Country" overtones. It's very OBVIOUS on most of the other Track's. Not that it matters, but personally, I DO NOT like "Country Music"
Dave must have some strong 'roots' in Country Music.
"It's Cold Outside" should have been left alone. I realize it a Record by the Choir, written by Dan Klawon and the first Record that Dave sang 'LEAD' on but this Acoustic version is OK at best.
"Someone like You" is Epic. Good tune. Good lyrics. Well produced. I could easily hear Benjamin Orr singing this song 'introspectively' on a CAR's record. Come to think of it. Dave could easily Sing on a CAR's record (in place of Benjamin Orr) since Orr has passed away. Can you imagine a Clevelander, like Dave Singing with Car's...how cool would that be. laters mike
