Honestly, in all my political travels, I've found an entire class of people on both sides of the aisle who simply cannot differentiate between realistic evaluation and wishful thinking. These are the people who think that a stuffed shirt like Ginny Schrader or Brian Boyle can beat Santorum, and the people who think that Lynn Swann or that McCawley guy can beat Rendell.

Santorum is in a strong position. He's not invincible but a stiff isn't going to beat him. He should worry about Hoeffel, who came far too close to beating his more secure colleague. Now that doesn't mean that Hoeffel is a lock to win if he should run, it just means that things could get pretty tight. Hoeffel still lost the last election and he doesn't have Kerry's coat tails anymore, not to mention that people voted for Gore then crossed all the way across the ballot, past W to vote for Santorum in 2k.

Rendell, Fast Eddie is as close to invincible as someone gets. Unless part of this Street investigation gets hung around his neck - and by hung around his neck I mean he is actually indicted - during the campaign, he's pretty secure.

Now for the record I am a Bucks Co. Republican. I voted for Santorum in 2000 and Fisher in 2002.
