Sonsa: A New Beginning

On Pern, a planet inhabited by dragons and their riders, everything seemed to be perfect. Thread, which had plagued the planet for many years, had finally disappeared after the eleventh pass and new colors of dragons were appearing. The planet flourished. The population grew, crops thrived and the Pernese took this time to enjoy their surroundings, now sure that they'd never have to fight Thread again. Little did they know what was held in store for them...

700 Turns after the horrid Threads stopped falling, it struck back with a vengence. The sudden and unexpected Threadfall destoryed Benden Weyr, Ista Weyr, Igen Weyr, Telgar Weyr and all their holds- rendering the eaters half of the northern continent a barren wasteland. Those that survived fled to the three remaning Weyrs- Fort, High Reaches and Southern- and their holds. If the oncoming Thread wasn't enough, the Pernese had to deal with the fact that their golden queens hadn't been laying any new queens for some time. Just when Pern needed it's dragons the most, they were disappearing.

When all hope seemed lost, the former senior queen of Benden, who had relocated to Fort Weyr, laid a magnificent clutch, containing a large and beautiful queen egg. The Pernese celebrated. Maybe their planet would be saved yet! When the clutch hatched, many surprises were in store for the Pernese. The clutch produced many fine dragonets- including many of Pern's three newest colors. Also, blue and brown dragonets began to Impress females, something that had been unheard of before. If that wasn't a shock enough for the Pernese, the new queen was. When the queen egg shattered, it revealed a beautifully pale gold queen, who was later called a white-gold. The only problem with her was that she said that Hers wasn't among the candidates among the hatching grounds. Fort Weyr sent out it's finest searchriders, and eventually found the white-gold's lifemate, an HAD who had been surprisingly overlooked by the search riders before.

The three remaining weyr began to get over crowded as they filled with refugee dragonriders and the hatchlings of new clutches. The weyrs sent out scouts to find new sites for Weyrs and they gathered their strongest junior weyrwomen, including the white-gold and her rider. The white-gold and Hers were sent to Mirnet Island, the largest island in the Sonsa Island Chain off the western coast of Southern. The whole weyr anxiously awaits the young queen's maiden flight to see who the first weyrleader of Sonsa Weyr will be...

Will you help save Pern?
