Five years had passed before another child was conceived by their mother, though both sadly saw their ends in a brief skirmish between a rival of the King's. The King left with no other choice than to beset the golden-haired twins as the sole keepers of the Royal lines. In their youth they spent every moment in each other's presence, but as they aged, their intrests grew apart. Devlyn, matured into a handsome grey-eyed charmer, spent all his time out of doors upon his chestnut stallion, hunting in the bountiful woods of the land, or attending parties among his comrades. Bria prefered the indoors, sharpening her intellectual powers in the company of her scholarly friends and making appearances at her father's political banquets. Still, the twins held strong loyalties for one another, no matter how little time they spent together. In the winter of their nineteenth year their father fell ill. It began with a nagging cough, growing steadily worse as the season reached its coldest point. On a frozen morn in the midst of January, the Prince and Princess awoke to receive news that their father had died in his sleep. They were now King and Queen of Lloricanthe. During their coronation a week later, each decided upon the portion of land over which they would rule. Bria chose Atmari as the name of her realm, naming Elesh the capital. Devlyn gave his realm the name of Niall, deciding, for the capital, the city of Kiros. Each retired to their new castles, leaving that of their father as a monument of his greatness. And now they rule the lands, presiding over matters of justice and regality. Neither have yet chosen whom to wed, though both have many a suitor. But this is only one tale, one drama, of the many that occur unremembered here in the Mists of Lloricanthe ... |
