Subject: Camp Blanding Youth Hunt

Cody went on his last Camp Blanding Youth Hunt this weekend. We hunted in still hunt area 1 but in an area that is normally closed to hunting along N Tank Trail.

We saw a lot of sign as far as rubs and scrapes and deer activity. We didn't make the first morning hunt on Saturday, but did see 2 does and 1 ? with a white tail on the evening hunt. Sunday morning we saw 2 ?'s & 4 does. A group of 3 that had one that must have just gotten rid of it spots because she looked like she might have weighed 35 lbs. and the a single doe who was on the move.

We tried to guess the feed time for the evening hunt by the time we saw the deer that morning and guessed it pretty close. Cody was where he wanted to hunt from and sitting down for maybe 20 minutes when this old doe walked up to within 10 yards of him. He aimed real low and dropped her. She turned out to be 8.5 years old.

A real treat we had was, we got to see John Lance and his nephew who came down for the hunt from Jacksonville. We had fun talking to them and hope they were successful since we got out of the woods early and headed for the house without a chance to say good bye.

One father and son team we met was on their way up 75 to go to the hunt Saturday morning and got in a wreck and totaled their truck right near my house at Hwy 484 and 75. They only had a minor cut to the head and decided no need to worry about the truck and decided to make the hunt anyway. I hope luck was on their side too. They had a video of Saturdays evening hunt where they had a Sow and two cubs walk in on them before they ran them off.

Jim
