The total number of applications for a specific hunt (by choice) would be good to know because it would show what percentage of applicants are really applying for the permits.

It would also give a running total of applications that could be used to plan other management functions in the future...For example...if you have a 200 allotment for a specific area and you consistantly get 210 applications, it may make sense to open up 10 more slots. On the other hand, if you see 1,000 applications for the same 200 quota hunt, the FWC may be able to establish some type of rule that would allow only previously rejected applicants to get the permits (sort of like the system today)....they may also be able to use that info to justify land purchases.

Either way, any new system has to be flexible enough to accomodate changes based on actual data not just "projections" and "estimates"....although, that may be a hard nut to crack because after all...it IS the government! :)
