Well, hunting in the same no name woods as AlanK...

opening day I did get a 120lb doe (my first deer ever) after leaving work at 5pm, hauling considerable butt to the WMA (45mins), flying up my stand, all to have 6 doe converge on me an hour later. 3 from one side, 2 from another, I drew right when the mature doe was looking at the other two doe comming toward her in the palmettos.. bad shot, high towards the front of the gut, but my buddy Chris has a nice bright light and we tracked her for about 200 yards. what a drag that was back to the truck!! many many lessons learned that day

this past Sunday, I got my first buck, a.k.a Unicorn Buck.. that morning was crispy cold and at around 8:30 I had four does come out. when they got to near 25 yeards i grunted loudly and got rushed since they were all staring me down hahah so i squeezed my 30yd pin off and it was a clean miss.. after reviewing that in my head i decided to shed my gloves and not grunt if not needed.. more lessons learned.. at 10 i saw about 4 toms go out, then 15 mins later i saw my buck headed right towards me, on a mission.. he wasnt going to stop for anything, not even my doe P rag, so i softly grunted when i was at full draw and made a very clean shot. he went 40 yards and i heard him go down, struggle, then quiet. after having the experts take a look (AlanK and Al) they deemed him a fighter, originally a 4pt, he was missing one side of his horns, and the other main tine was broke off, leaving the small fork spike. it seems he just couldnt fight my thunderheads (though he tried considering the bloodtrail)

so far its been an awesome season, my first bowhunting season with my first deer ever.. looking forward to more to come
