Date Posted: 12:41:59 11/27/05 Sun A mixed group of ponies, seen grazing in the meadow, the far strays from the deserted dovehouse. The main stallion, Blue Splash, small in height at only 11.3hh, chestnut pinto stallion reaching the end of his years, well into his twenties but he still had the fight in him. A kids pony all his life, he still longed for the human compainionship he had always loved, a mischief maker who was multi-talented in the art of fooling all that knew him. Although the harsh winter now approuching was taking its toll on the aging steed, unable to keep his weight on any more, from fighting the cold and the rebellious chestnut stallion so keen to over throw him, although he loved the herd life, and wouldn't give that up without a fight. The second stallion amoung the group, always following on the boarder for a chance to overthrow the aging steed. Bandit was taller in height, 13.2hh to be in fact, his deep chestnut coat always gleaming in the sun, at 5yrs old he was young in years. Although tame and handled, he hadn't done much with his few years, never broken to ride, he ran wild and always though more of himself than others. And amoung this small herd of ponies stood two mares. Selena, the older of the two, at 12yrs old she was in her prime, a recently broken pony but with issues meaning few if any could ride the pony any more, she lived her life as a broodmare, with the sweetest of temperments. A bay in colour and at 13.1hh she was around the same height as most of the herd. The second mare, Thistle was only a 7yr old, a broodmare for the past year or so, but before she had been a champion, show jumper, dressage, a multi-talent mare who was in her prime for her ridden career. What was once black, becoming white with age, at the stage of dapple grey with a stunning look, larger than the bay mare at 13.3hh, she was always a sweet mare, if not a bit high strung under saddle. As the rest of the group, made up of youngster, most belong to one of the mares. The yearling consisting of Alchemist and a unnamed colt. Alchemist belong to Thistle, sired by the lead stallion Splash. He had inherted his father stunning coat pattern, but his mothers height and build, no doubt to one day make a lovely ridden pony if he made 13.1hh like people had expected. An entire colt, he would only be allowed to stay in the herd for a few years. Unhandled from birth, he knew nothing of people. The second of the yearlings, an unnamed colt belong to Selena, sire unknown, full brother to the 5 yr old stallion, Bandit and almost identical in appearance to his sibling, his deep chestnut coat making him the spitting image of his brother. Unhandled and unnamed, he knew nothing of humans. The two year olds consisting of the fillies Melody and Plixie. Melody belong to Thistle, sire unknown, grey like her mother but slimmer in build and height, she stood only 12.1hh at this age, although she still had a few inches or so to grow. Her handling at this young age limited, she knew the basic's but then how much more could a youngster know, her mother gentle nature inherted to this delightful filly. The second of the two, a much larger filly at 14hh, she was not born of this herd, a lost soul, her mother died when she was no more than a few days old, hand reared although still semi-wild, she know nothing of halters and leading, and little of human contact, born of the mustang breed, her two toned coat pattern making her stand out in this small herd of ponies.
