Nikita easily moved thru the water and stood up as she saw Kate walking down the steps into the pool. “Should you be swimming?”
“I’m getting big, but the doctor says exercise, especially in the water, is good for me,” Kate blushed as she got further into the water. She hadn’t been sure about coming over to the big night swim before camp started, but Davenport wanted to come over. She knew that everyone had been staring at her of late and she wasn’t sure what she felt about that.
“You are not getting big. You are becoming a mother,” Nikita declared as she shook her head from side to side. She couldn’t wait to be like Kate. Nikita was excited for the first day that her period was going to be late. It was going to be magic. Nikita even could hear herself asking Michael to drive to the drug store to get the home pregnancy test. It was going to be wonderful for both of them.
“Yeah, I used to think the same thing until I realized it was my body that was changing,” Kate rolled her eyes, but she had to admit, it did feel good to be in the water. She had always been tentative in the water, especially after last summer when Davenport had grabbed her at the natural water slide and ended up almost killing Nikita. But her body seemed so light in the water right now.
“What does Davenport think about it?” Nikita asked and Kate chuckled. “He loves my new body… I’m surprised he isn’t over here trying to feel me up… whenever he sees my stomach… especially when it’s bare… he can’t keep his hands off of it.”
Nikita sighed with jealousy. She couldn’t wait for that attention from Michael.
“A year ago, Nikita… you looked so afraid of everyone,” Kate commented as she looked around. “Amazing how things changed.”
“Yeah, now Carla is afraid of me,” Nikita shook her head sadly. She didn’t like that Carla had been avoiding her since their conversation at the stable. She had thought that she had tried to play the whole conversation out as her trying to be helpful, but Carla absolutely didn’t take it that way.
“It could be worse… it could be someone who was so star struck that they just stared at you all day,” Kate stated as she started to swim over to Gail and Jasmine in the deep end.
Walter pulled out some mountain pies from the fire and put them up on the table. He wasn’t making too much right now. The swim had just started. He rubbed his face and knew that he had a growing headache.
“Do you want me to spray those pans for you?” Belinda asked as she touched Walter’s lower back. Walter jumped and looked at Belinda. “I’m surprised that you are here…”
“Why?” Belinda asked and Walter tilted his head as sadness filled his eyes. Belinda shook her head, knowing what Walter was thinking about. “I’m not sick right now, Walter.”
“You need to have surgery… and more testing…” Walter hissed out his whisper as he shook his head. “You should be taking it easy and letting me tell our friends about it. You are going to need help. You know that I can’t take care of everything myself.”
“That’s because I won’t let you change your life to take care of me after the surgery… and it isn’t a rare procedure Walter. It’s a basic hysterectomy,” Belinda shook her head from side to side.
“Nothing basic about that,” Walter countered and Belinda shook her head. “My blood tests came back fine, Walter. It’s going to finally take care of the endometriosis issues that I have had all of my life… and I’ll finally be in true menopause… I’ve been having my period for way too many extra years.”
Walter turned his head and shook it. “We should tell them.”
“Next weekend,” Belinda declared and Walter frowned. That meant that she was going to tell them only days before the surgery was scheduled to occur. “Michael and Nikita just got back from their honeymoon. Camp starts tomorrow. I want the happiness this week, Walter.”
Walter took the spray and worked on the mountain pie trays and then looked at Belinda. “Do you want pizza pie or a cherry?”
“What, no chocolate?” Belinda questioned with a smile. Walter sighed. “I remembered to bring the chocolate… I was hoping that you would have a pizza one because you didn’t eat dinner.”
“I’m not showing what is going on with my health on the outside, Walter. But it is scary. I admit that. But for now… I’ll take that cherry pie… and I’ll have a chocolate one after that.”
Walter watched as Belinda walked to the side and hugged a few of the staff members while putting her towel down. He just wanted to protect his wife. It had taken him too long to meet her and court her. There couldn’t be anything wrong with her.
