Oak picked up the phone as he settled into his room in the stable. “Hi Hunter.”

“I hope that this is a better time,” Hunter replied with a husky voice. Earlier it was clear that Hunter’s call had caught Oak in surprise and Oak didn’t feel like talking much at all.

“I’m conflicted,” Oak admitted as he sat down on his bed and rolled his head back. He had been starting to look for a small place with Hunter when he had abruptly gotten the job in Canada and disappeared. “You left me in a lurch here, Hunter.”

“I’m an actor,” Hunter stressed as he sat on the edge of the bed in the hotel room that he was staying in. It wasn’t as nice as some of the hotels he used to stay in when he was in demand. It also felt so much more alone than ever before. “I got a good role in this movie… it’s an independent movie… but I think it is going to prove that I really can act… that I’m not just an action movie guy… or a comedic guy…”

“And that you aren’t the gay guy?” Oak fired back as he dropped back on the bed and looked up at the wooden beams of the stable roof. “That’s what this is about.”

“The role is that of a gay guy, Oak,” Hunter countered with a soft voice.

Oak rubbed his face with his hand and sighed. He wasn’t sure what he thought about this role at all. “So you just had to take it.”

“Many others dropped out of the role… and it is a very well written movie. I was lucky to be given the opportunity,” Hunter explained as he prayed that Oak would give him the chance. “I thought I was going to have time to explain things to you… I didn’t realize that I was needed on set immediately.”

“You aren’t just on set… you are in Canada!” Oak complained as he closed his eyes. “And I don’t know what is going to happen with us… and you left the camp in a lurch… Nikita wrote that acting week in because of you.”

“And I’ll be back by then,” Hunter snapped as he closed his eyes. He swallowed hard. “If you let me come back.”

Oak sat up in the bed and frowned. “Back in four weeks?”

“Yes,” Hunter responded quickly, but his voice soft. He was worried that Oak would tell him not to come back. “I don’t want to take roles in movies that are going to have me gone for whole seasons, Oak. Not now.”

“Because you promised Nikita…”

“Because of you,” Hunter interrupted quickly. “I know that I didn’t explain any of this to you before I left… and I avoided contacting you because I didn’t know how to express what I felt…”

“And what is it that you feel?” Oak inquired as his heart started to race, not sure if he could handle hearing the answer.

“I’m alone without you,” Hunter gave the answer without any hesitation. He opened his eyes and saw the window that showed the night outside. He rubbed his hand through his hair. “In ways, I wish that I would have asked you to come along… but I wouldn’t want to take you from the life that you enjoy… and your friends. Because I worry that you would have come along just to be with me… to make me happy… and because I know that with you there… I have a reason to come back.”

Oak found it hard to breath, but his lips started to move upward. “You want to come back to me.”

“Always,” Hunter answered and Oak exhaled, relief washing over his body. “Thank god.”

“That means you want me to come back, right?” Hunter nervously chuckled as he had worried about Oak not wanting him back after the way that he left.

“You can’t just pick up and leave like that again…”

“I know that we hadn’t finalized anywhere to live… and I never expected you to handle that all by yourself…”

“I stopped looking,” Oak replied with a nervous chuckle. “I guess we’ll be living in the stable…”

“What a glamorous life I have,” Hunter chuckled back with happiness. “Maybe we can build something close by… instead of trying to find something.”

“Really?”

“You work there… and I did promise at least one acting week… We shouldn’t be too far,” Hunter answered and he sighed.

Things were going to be perfect.
