Nikita took a slow and steady breath as she walked down the hallway. She knew that she was squeezing Michael’s hand so hard with her right hand and she was holding the flowers tightly in her left. It had not gone unnoticed by Michael that Nikita had barely had eaten any of her breakfast and merely nibbled at lunch, despite it being a wonderfully light wrap that was made by one of the stable staff members.

“Kita, you talked to Belinda yesterday… and this morning,” Michael pointed out as he walked slowly with Nikita, feeling her entire body trembling. It was never fun to be in a hospital but this was becoming harder for Nikita. “Have you talked to Heather about this fear?”

“It isn’t about the hospital,” Nikita spoke as she lifted her chin and looked at the elevator. She stepped onto it and pressed the button for the third floor before looking at Michael. “I’m scared for Belinda.”

“She is fine now, Kita,” Michael spoke and Nikita nodded her head up and down but she did not say another word until they knocked at Belinda’s door. Walter stood up from the chair and he smiled at them. “Come on in. Belinda just woke up.”

Nikita was nudged forward and she entered to find Belinda sitting up in bed. She didn’t look terribly comfortable and she winced as she moved the bed up further, but she did not look as bad as Nikita had imagined that she would. Nikita was mute as Michael started to talk.

It was as if she was sucked into her thoughts. She could see Belinda talking and she was aware of Michael talking. Nikita looked to her hands and then stepped forward. “These are for you.”

Belinda smiled as she blinked her eyes. Walter stood up and reached for them. “I’ll put them over by the window, Belinda. Is that good?”

Nikita turned and looked at Michael. “Did I do something wrong?”

“No, Kita,” Michael gently replied as he kissed Nikita’s forehead. She wrinkled her eyes as she leaned back from Michael. He had chided her and Nikita wrapped her arms across her body. “I did…”

“You were a bit far off,” Michael replied gently as he stepped towards Nikita and wrapped his arm around her. “We all know that this isn’t your favorite place to be.”

“This isn’t about me,” Nikita retorted as she pulled away from Michael and moved closer to Belinda. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m sick of the attention,” Belinda admitted as she looked at her hand and rolled her eyes. “And this IV.”

“When will you be able to get out of bed?” Nikita asked and Walter laughed. “Oh, Sugar… my Belinda was out of bed last night… she told them to fast track her.”

“I don’t think I said those words,” Belinda retorted and Walter sighed as he settled back down. “It may not have been the exact words… but it was the drift of what she said.”

“I actually walked to the nurses’ station after breakfast. They want me to get up and move about. Even sit in the chair that Walter has taken over,” Belinda answered the question that was truly being asked. She looked at Nikita. “I know that Mick and Birkoff are coming shortly. I’m only allowed to have two visitors at a time… but they don’t count Walter here.”

“We won’t stay long,” Michael responded with relief. Nikita had snapped out of her thoughts quickly and it was good to see. But Michael knew not to linger too long. “You should hear the great job that Kita did yesterday when your kitchen staff was melting down.”

“Melting down?” Nikita rolled her eyes with a chuckle as she looked at Walter. “I don’t know how you got those two to work together…”

“Well, they really didn’t work together… I gave them separate tasks…” Walter spoke and then he closed his eyes. “Oh crap… that must have been a disaster!”

“We almost didn’t have lunch,” Nikita answered as she looked at Belinda. “I even had to resort to frozen lasagna for dinner… but no one complained… they thought I made it.”

“Then you shouldn’t have told them that it was frozen,” Belinda laughed and winced gently. She looked at Nikita and sighed. “Maybe while I’m not allowed to go to the shop… you can come over and do some cooking with me… I’ll get bored…”

“And I sure hope that my Sugar isn’t taking care of all the meals at the camp,” Walter spoke as he was nervously rubbing his hands together. Michael rolled his shoulders back. “Oh, you’ll hear all about it… because we are rotating meals… I even have a cook a meal… but Nikita slammed me with the last dinner…”

“You make it sound like it is all important!” Nikita looked at Michael and he kissed her cheek. “I like the challenge.”

“Walter will be back next week…I won’t be able to put up with him for that long… Hell, how about he comes back tomorrow…”

“Oh- no, darling Belinda… you are here… I am here,” Walter firmly pointed to the floor. Belinda smiled at Nikita. “Another reason why they have to fast track me out of here… he’ll drive them all nuts.”

“Are you talking about that nasty green slime that they tried to serve to you for lunch and claim that it was jello?” Walter retorted as he shook his head. Nikita leaned her head against Michael’s shoulder and she felt a little bit better. It was easier to not think about being in the hospital with Walter and Belinda. Belinda did look good. It was as if some of the worry that she had about the whole thing was now gone and she was more relaxed. Nikita reached out and squeezed Belinda’s hand. “I’d put up with the food for every meal if it got you better faster.”

“I’m already on the mend, Nikita,” Belinda squeezed Nikita’s hands, knowing that Nikita would do anything that she could for her.
