Michael was shaky as he walked towards the front door. He had a hard time dropping Adam off at school. His son knew. Michael wasn’t sure how, but Adam knew that Michael was onto something. At first Adam was arguing with him that he was trying to find a way to delay making Plan B during the upcoming weekend. Michael told Adam that he would make that plan with him but something important was going on.

That was when Michael realized that Adam was playing him.

Michael was afraid of the conversation that he was going to have with Walter and Jason. He was afraid that even if he got these two men to listen to what his concerns were, that Adam was going to do something that would cause Nikita to run. That would destroy Adam.

But Michael opened the door and blinked as he saw the man who was behind Walter. He knew that Jason was not Birkoff. But Jason didn’t even look like the Jason that Michael had only briefly men and spent time with before leaving Section. Michael didn’t comment as he stepped back and both men entered and immediately started to talk in unison.

“Let’s sit down and I’ll explain things,” Michael spoke as he simply motioned both men to continue down the hallway. Michael saw that they were following him and Michael quickly moved them into the lab. Walter whistled as he looked around. “It’s like a stainless steel version of Jason’s area…”

“I didn’t have science crap around my station. Computers only, old man,” Jason moved over towards Michael’s tower of computer and nodded his head. “Good job with your limited knowledge.”

“Sit down,” Michael directed as he took his stool and looked at the ad-hoc meeting space that he had created inside of the lab. Michael rubbed his hands along his legs and watched as Walter tugged at Jason’s arm. “First, I was not looking for Nikita when I found her. I do know where she is…. But I also know that she isn’t in a good place.”

“Then go get her,” Jason interjected as he leaned forward. Michael glanced at Walter. He had anticipated that Walter would be the one wanting to go to Nikita first. But instead, he gently pulled at Jason again to get him to settle into the chair.

“I was working on two separate cases… the police wanted me to run some blood that was found at one of the scenes that was attributed to the work of the angel and another case of a unknown woman who barely spoke who showed up at a convent one day and was taken in,” Michael explained as he looked to the side. “Walter knows this, but Adam has been completely obsessed about this angel… I was hoping to find that it would prove that it wasn’t just one person.”

“She is atoning for the sins that she believes that she has caused,” Walter rasped and Michael shrugged his shoulders, although he did believe that Walter was right, even if it was being done on a subconscious level. It was hard to think about Nikita taking such a risk without it being for something like trying to make up for the bad things that she thought she did. “Now that I know that it is Nikita, after I matched up the DNA, I looked for matching fingerprints at the scenes… when they started to match up also… it was more proof.”

“How did you know to look into the Section files to prove that it was Nikita?” Jason inquired as his leg started to nervously tap up and down. Michael was trying to be composed in front of these men. He rolled his shoulders back and knew that he had to explain.

“I knew…. I saw the display of the DNA and I knew that I had seen it somewhere before. I couldn’t sleep and I forced myself to go back to when I saw it…” Michael kept the explanation simple. He looked towards Walter. “I had seen it on the MedLab monitor above Nikita after the war with Red Cell…. It was displayed there and somehow it was burned into my mind.”

Walter’s mouth parted slightly as he realized how lucky Michael was that he remembered that very small moment in time that he had seen Nikita’s DNA on that display. It went to the core to just when Michael started loving Nikita.

“I spoke some with the Lieutenant who gave me the blood sample for the angel… not about that case, but about this Mary at the convent that they were trying to find her family. The Reverend Mother there is friends with him and he suggested that she get in touch with me. I didn’t tell me that I figured out the angel cases… because I don’t know what to even say,” Michael continued to speak as his fingers started to tap on his legs gently.

“How is she?” Jason asked.

“She is staying in a convent and not talking, what do you think?” Michael snapped as he then groaned. Snapping and being short was not going to get him anywhere in this conversation. “I’m sorry Jason… for each little piece of good news, he communicated me things that really had me more scared.”

Michael stood up and started to slowly move from one end of the room to the other. “I need to get eyes on her… I can’t go to her yet…”

“I can go,” Walter suggested but it made Michael stop his pacing. Gently, Michael moved his eyes from side to side. “She would see you and run, Walter….”

Jason started to move and Michael moved his head from side to side still. “And although you look completely different with all that hair, Jason… you still look like your twin brother and Nikita would pick you up a mile away.”

Michael sat down and looked up at the ceiling. “She told them that to call her Joe. She hasn’t talked much at all.”

“Nikita, not talk?” Walter questioned and Michael nodded his head up and down. “We don’t know what happened… we don’t know if she wasn’t supposed to live, Walter. Maybe she is on the run from whoever finally finished off Section. But I think it’s more.”

“More?” Walter inquired as he was really listening to Michael and not following what his heart told me to do. Michael knew that Walter wanted to go to her right away. That was what Michael wished that he could do. “Do you remember how Nikita was when things didn’t go as planned with Sasha and Peter? She got them to their parents after a huge ordeal but then she had those nightmares?”

Walter swallowed hard. “My sugar has a big heart, Michael.”

“But she couldn’t have big heart when it came to our daughter, Walter. It has to be tearing her apart that she had to rush her out of Section and not get to know her and act like absolutely nothing happened,” Michael’s voice cracked.

“Daughter? Nikita has a daughter?” Jason sat up straight and looked from Michael to Walter. He blinked his eyes and shook his head. “You have a daughter with Nikita?”

“You didn’t…” Michael turned his head to the side.

“I didn’t tell a soul, Michael. Not till you,” Walter shook as he rubbed his old hands together and looked at Jason. “Nikita was pregnant when she took over Section One. No one knew. I didn’t know until she was ready to deliver that baby girl… and no more than a half hour after she called me up there to help her, Nikita distracted everyone and got me to sneak out to give the daughter away.”

Michael noted that Walter did not tell Jason the details about Mick Schtoppel’s involvement. That could wait until later. What mattered was what Nikita had been forced to do. With hours to think about it this morning, it had to be the main reason why Nikita was doing the work that the angel was doing. Michael wasn’t sure why she wasn’t talking at the convent, but he was sure that Nikita was looking to repent for what she had done to their daughter.

“This is all more of a reason to get Nikita. Then you can go search for your daughter!” Jason’s voice rose up. Michael shook his head. “I need eyes…. Someone who knows Nikita can keep an eye on her and see if there is some sort of routine… to see if she is acting or if she is so far out of touch with the world…”

The doorbell rang and Michael was at attention again. Walter stood up. “Just someone who can help you out, Michael.”

Michael followed Walter down the hallway and the door opened. Michael jerked his head back and blinked several more times. “You have hair, Davenport.”
