Michael took Nikita’s hand as they browsed through the mall, walking away from the heavily populated stores towards an area where there were a couple closed storefronts. He had stayed in bed with Nikita and listened to everyone leave. They had lounged and Michael allowed Nikita to write a list while she walked, although he knew that it was going to be unnecessary.

But still, they had picked up a couple outfits while they were out today and they were in Michael’s other hand. They were items that Nikita couldn’t pass up and one was very practical, a snowsuit, something that probably no one bought.

“I am starting to get hungry,” Nikita commented as she looked over her shoulders as they passed the way that would lead them to the food court. Michael chuckled. “You are just starting to get hungry? Didn’t you just have a pretzel?”

“That isn’t a real food,” Nikita declared and Michael laughed happily. “We’ll get food soon enough.”

Nikita looked at Michael and blinked her eyes. “Marc.”

Michael stopped and looked at Nikita. “Who?”

“For a name… because you won’t let me name our boy or girl some sort of play off of Samuelle…. How about Marc Samuel if it’s a boy?”

The name rang and Michael could feel the smile coming from inside of him. “Marc Samuel Pomeroy.”

“It sounds right,” Nikita pointed out and Michael nodded his head. He reached over and kissed Nikita’s lips tenderly. They had been trying all morning to think of names and no agreement had been found. But now, one was decided. The girl’s name would be more difficult.

Michael pulled away and took her hand. “I’m taking you to a surprise.”

Nikita was now confused. “What?”

“A baby shower,” Michael admitted as he looked down the hallway. He wanted Nikita to be surprised and she would be. The fact that they rented out a storefront and decorated it was going to stun Nikita. The fact that it was probably full of baby stuff and that everything would be there, it was going to shock her. He just didn’t want it to be too much. She was having Braxton Hicks.

She stopped walking and looked at Michael. He nodded his head. “You wanted the focus on the holiday to be everyone else and we all knew that the baby had to be honored in some way… you had to be honored and you needed to experience a baby shower.”

Nikita blinked her eyes and was experiencing a tidal wave of emotions. She glanced down the hallway and then to Michael. “I would have found out if they tried to do it at home.”

Michael nodded his head.

“And you weren’t supposed to tell me,” Nikita spoke and Michael shrugged his shoulders. “I think the adults know that I probably would have to tell you… some probably couldn’t believe that I knew for three days… and that’s as long as I have known because I almost went shopping for things before Christmas… for more than the one gift each we allowed ourselves.”

“I didn’t want…” Nikita shook her head as she closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. “I didn’t think I wanted this… I was scared of this…”

“Was?”

Nikita took Michael’s hand as she nodded her head. “I don’t… know how to explain… it didn’t make sense… I just… was scared… and I knew that I shouldn’t… but I’m fine now with it… I can’t wait… to see what everyone wants to give our child…”

“Well, to Marc or To Be Determined,” Michael smiled and Nikita blushed. “Let’s not tell anyone any of these things. Especially not Adam or Sabina.”

Michael nodded his head in agreement as he started to walk with Nikita. He could feel her moving with more ease and then they both were stunned as they saw the pink and blue balloons.

Someone had gone well above and beyond what was necessary.
