Nikita could feel the pain and then she could sense Michael. She was upset that Adrian would have called Michael to be back with her when Nikita told her not to do that. It was too risky and Section One could get suspicious at any point in time. Things had been handled.

Of course, nothing was simple. Section One and thought that given Lisa the isotope would be enough to ensure that David Fanning would perish. The mission was accomplished. But things hadn’t gone as the report had stated. The operative that they had put into play with Michael had not convinced David for a moment and actions had to be taken. Only Nikita could be Nikita.

Adrian had her personnel take the operative into custody in a manner in which she thought she was working with David Fanning, because Adrian’s stand in was much better at doing the job. And Nikita was put in with David Fanning.

But the reports written said that David Fanning knew that it wasn’t Nikita. But with him alive, he could somehow make statements that would get back to Section One that would lead them to the truth and put Michael in danger. That was why Nikita had to go after him when Lisa’s dead body was found.

She had been recovering from the beating that she had taken from Fanning and Nikita found herself on his trial again, this time without the resources and knowing that Michael was back in Section One prepping for another mission.

It was not part of the plan for David Fanning to take her down this time. It had been a stupid mistake as her ankle twisted and she yelped out in pain. In a flash, the tables had turned and David had her in his grasp and was ready to torture her to get Michael back. But Michael didn’t even know that Nikita was in play again with David Fanning.

He had her for three days and Nikita had almost been desperate when David Fanning made a mistake and left something close enough to Nikita to not only free herself from another set of chains, but was able to end his life for once and for all. Nikita knew that he was not going to be coming back from the dead this time.

She had struggled out of the second cabin and had found her way to a picnic area where she was able to get her hands on a phone from someone’s unlocked car to call for Adrian. The first reaction of Adrian’s was to take her to the hospital but Nikita pleaded for her to just take her home and to bring the doctor in.

Of course, Adrian hadn’t listened to one of the suggestions that Michael had always given whenever Nikita was possibly hurt – always get a female doctor.

Nikita didn’t want to wake up and face Dr. Wallace. She had probably broken his nose when he made a suggestion of further examinations. While he had blood on his face, he gave Nikita the sedative that she was now waking up from, feeling that Michael was beside her bed.

Damn Adrian for calling Michael back!

The ribs should have been hurting more. But her head was throbbing and everything felt so heavy. It was probably too much medicine. That was the payback for that punch to Dr. Wallace.

“Michael…” Nikita groaned as she turned her head towards him. “ You shouldn’t be here.”

Michael waited for Nikita to open her eyes, just relieve that she accepted that he was here. “Hi, Kita.”

She was confused as she looked at Michael and then tilted her head to look at the room. “Why? Why did Adrian bring me to a hospital?”

Michael waited as he arched an eyebrow.

“I mean… did Dr. Wallace give me something bad? Is that why my head hurts so much? David just bruised some ribs… I told him that I didn’t need anything more… and he drugged me? Did he… did he…”

“No,” Michael interrupted Nikita as he knew exactly what Nikita thought that she was waking up to and Michael had hated Dr. Wallace for what he had done when Nikita had taken final care of David Fanning. “That was years ago, Kita.”

“I told Adrian… no hospital… and she called you… and took me to a hospital…” Nikita closed her eyes as she squinted against the light. Michael got up and turned the lights off. “Nikita, Adrian didn’t bring you to the hospital. What David Fanning did to you, you weren’t taken to the hospital. That happened years ago.”

“What?” Nikita’s eyes snapped open and she tried to sit up in bed. But she was a washed with pain and Michael watched as she sunk back down, the surge of energy gone. “What’s going on, Michael?”

The decision had been made to tell Nikita the truth and not to hide things when any of them were directly asked. “Section is done. You helped me succeed in closing it… and in that process, you were going to meet up with me… and saved a girl… and got hurt, really hurt, in saving her.”

Nikita shook her head. “No… we weren’t close to doing that…”

Michael took Nikita’s hand and squeezed it. “One of the injuries was a head injury, Kita. You’ve been in a coma for months.”

“Why isn’t a doctor telling me this? IF it was that bad… why aren’t they in the room?” Nikita looked around and Michael sighed. “Because this isn’t the first time that you woke up… and sometimes you remember more… and sometimes you remember less.”

Nikita shivered. “Less?”

“Sometimes you didn’t know… that I love you,” Michael’s voice cracked as he looked at Nikita and then kissed his hand. “But I know that you are getting better. This is good, Kita.”

Michael continued to give Nikita the outline of what was wrong and how she was getting better. Usually by the end, Nikita would be tired and drifting to sleep, but this time, Nikita motioned for Michael to ease the bed up some. Nikita was quiet as she looked around and saw that Walter was waving to her. She looked at Michael. “I’m hungry.”

Michael chuckled. “That is a first.”

“Really?”

“Usually you fall asleep about now.”

“But I’m hungry,” Nikita dryly replied and Michael nodded his head. “I’ll have to see what the doctors think about it. Dr. Carle will probably think it is too soon.”

“Soon?”

“You’ve been having liquid nutrients,” Michael pointed out. “It is going to take time for you to get better, Nikita.”

“I don’t like that,” Nikita replied and Michael kissed her forehead. She was sounding more like herself now, even if she didn’t remember everything.
