”Michael,” Adrian spoke as she turned from the potted rose bush that she was working on trimming on the large stone patio behind the current house she was living in. “I didn’t expect to see you here first.”

“You need to tread carefully, Adrian. Nikita isn’t like me,” Michael warned as he took a chair from the patio set and spun it around so he could sit on it and stare at Adrian while leaning on the back. “She is to be in school.”

“That is not what she wants to be doing,” Adrian shook her head and Michael swallowed but did not move his eyes from Adrian. “It is.”

“She is being a nurse to find a way to protect you… and it has been handy,” Adrian shrugged as she touched her roses and sighed. “But she misses you a lot.”

“I haven’t seen that,” Michael commented but Adrian snorted. “Leave the Section games at Section, Michael. Your time out isn’t enough to play those games with me. We’ve been done that road and now we are going to end it.”

“And it doesn’t need to involve Nikita. I just need her to be safe.”

“She is safe helping you because if you aren’t safe she isn’t safe,” Adrian snipped a rose and handed it over to Michael. “I don’t tend to look at the weaknesses… I don’t like it when she is hurt or when you are hurt. It does something to me… like it is taking time off of my life to see anyone hurt or ill… So let’s not talk about what you want me to do and not do… I’ll do what I want to do, Michael. What I want to do is end Section and to get you out to be with Nikita. That’s all.”

“But why?’ Michael inquired as he stood up and looked at Adrian. She merely turned her head away and she wasn’t going to answer.

Michael looked up from the cup of coffee in his lap and studied the woman that he had been thinking of walking up from the car that she had just pulled up in. Michael glanced at his watch and internally smiled as he knew that Mick had left about twenty minutes ago and he would be gone for a bit longer. There was no way that Adrian would still be here when Mick returned.

“You aren’t here to see Nikita,” Michael spoke as Adrian stopped short of the porch. She primly stood there with her hands in front of her waist. “I have never been good at things like this.”

“But yet you time it perfectly that Nikita is asleep and Mick isn’t around,” Michael commented as he shifted and looked towards the door. “Nikita would like to see you.”

“She isn’t ready for me to see her… and that’s the reason why Mick had to go shopping for plants,” Adrian spoke as she made it clear that she was going to have this conversation without stepping onto the porch to further indicate that she wasn’t there to see Nikita.

“The house isn’t bugged. How do you know that?”

“I saw Walter muttering by his shack while I was driving up,” Adrian shrugged her shoulders slightly. “It’s easier for Walter… he is just so happy that she is alive. But Mick, seeing Nikita this weak outside the hospital, it’s harder than seeing her in the hospital. Not that it was the wrong decision…”

“It wasn’t.”

“I know,” Adrian sighed. “But it was easier to accept that she couldn’t walk a few steps without help in the hospital. Here… on the outside… at this house…”

“Our home.”

“This house,” Adrian continued firmly. “This is harder to see the image of Nikita being weak. Mick has always seen her as very strong woman.”

Michael was acutely aware of what Adrian was saying. He saw it and felt it that way also. He almost thought that Nikita was weaker but then realized that it was her surroundings that made it more pronounce. “Mick is helping by getting flowers. Nikita will want to be involved with where to put them for the fall.”

“I didn’t say that he was wrong,” Adrian shook her head slightly.

“You still want a moat,” Michael snorted.

“Mr. Birkoff is helping me get over that. Right now, you are focused on Nikita and while there is a slight risk of anything happening… you won’t have time to pay attention to that. Mr. Birkoff… he has promised me a virtual moat of sorts.”

“As long as you aren’t bugging what is going on in that house, Adrian,” Michael fired the warning clearly.

“I have other things to worry about,” Adrian sighed. “I did come to inform you that I haven’t been able to talk that sweet April into coming out here to be Nikita’s permanent therapist. Did you know that she had two small children?”

Michael nodded his head. “I did.”

“Well, this is too far for her to come every day… but she is willing to come out every other day until I find someone else.”

Michael stood up and stretched. “I don’t know why that isn’t sufficient.”

“Nikita has to recover a lot. April said it wouldn’t be fair to Nikita and since we both trust her judgment…”

Michael rolled his head around and shoved his hands into his pockets. “Just get it done, Adrian.”

“I’m trying to find a woman. I know that Marlow is around… but this house is practically all men,” Adrian shook her head back and forth. “I know that you want the best.”

“Yes,” Michael just stared at Adrian. “You aren’t that far either, Adrian. If you would just get over whatever it is that is stopping you…”

“That isn’t Nikita.”
