“No one said it was going to be easy,” Walter spoke after he placed the glass in front of Michael. Michael looked at it and then looked at Walter. “It’s water, Michael.”

Michael wasn’t sure if he could lift the glass safely. He rubbed his neck and shook his head. “Walter… she was doing so well.”

“That’s why I didn’t want to take her out of the hospital yet, Michael,” Dr. Carle commented as she walked into the kitchen and turned on the coffee pot. “She’ll be asleep longer this time.”

“She hates drugs,” Walter groaned as he shook his head back and forth.

Michael shivered. “Not that girl… not the Nikita that was awake…”

Dr. Carle sighed. “I can get her admitted back in… they haven’t adjusted the wing yet.”

Michael almost growled as he turned to look at the doctor. “She has no reason to be in there that we can’t handle here. And until tonight… she was doing better here.”

“She almost made it to the stairs,” Marlow snapped as she dropped her kind words with this man. The layout of the house, allowing Nikita to sleep on the second floor, was something that the doctor was not fond of. Not while Nikita was weak and obviously she was still having issues with memory. “She has bumps and bruises from fighting with you – trying to run away.”

“Which means that some part of the woman she learned to become was there… because when she first came to Section… well, she didn’t fight for herself. That was all things that I trained her to do… so part of that was there… she didn’t have nightmares in the hospital,” Michael’s voice rose in volume. He hated that he had to get physical with Nikita, but she was running like a baby moose down the hallway, but without an idea that there were stairs ahead. When he got her down, she fought back with more strength than anyone thought that she had. It was clear that she was running on adrenaline at that point – and fear. Michael blinked and then finally did take the glass and swallowed the liquid down with one gulp. He closed his eyes and glared at Walter. “I may have put some vodka in there… just a touch.”

“I was going to suggest Motrin… she did get a couple good hits onto you,” Marlow shook her head as she tried to figure out how Walter thought that vodka was going to help.

“It’s my job,” Michael rasped as he placed the glass in front of him and stared at it. “I know that I’m right about this… she had a nightmare… she may not have remembered anything, but that was her new person telling the person she thought she was at the moment to fight…”

There was some logic to what Michael was saying, but it was so difficult to comprehend as they all were stunned with what had happened. Michael shook his head and looked at Walter. “Earlier… some of what she said that first time… you do know that it did happen.”

Walter frowned. “What are you talking about, boy?”

“The other woman being taken and brought back… Section wanted Nikita but the team grabbed the wrong person… and they did take that person back… and went for Nikita later,” Michael explained as he shook his head. “I wouldn’t have been her trainer if that team hadn’t messed up.”

“None of that matters,” Walter stood up and took the glass away from Michael. “How do we get her back to how we were just yesterday – with her memories.”

“I wasn’t sure that she had them all,” Michael admitted as he looked down at his lap. “I think there was a good acting job going on for some things… but I do think that she does remember a lot. There are just gaps.”

“We all get gaps in our memories overtime,” Marlow pointed out as she rolled her shoulders back. “We should all get some rest.”

“Someone has to be with Nikita,” Walter pointed out and the doctor nodded her head. “Mick is up there now.”

“That isn’t going to stay that way,” Michael announced clearly and everyone knew that Michael was going to dismiss Mick quickly. “And I think… I need to wake her up before she wakes up on her own… at least this time.”

Marlow was going to suggest that thing and she nodded her head. “But you have to get some rest, Michael.”

“I will,” Michael declared as he stood up, leaving the room without another word. Walter sighed as he leaned his elbows down on the table. “This isn’t good.”

“It is healing,” the doctor pointed out as she pulled a glass out and filled it with water. She rolled her shoulders back again and looked at Walter. “But it’s going to take time. It isn’t going to be overnight and I think Michael put too much hope that bringing Nikita here would just fix everything.”

Walter knew that Michael understood that. But Dr. Marlow Carle didn’t know Michael as well as she thought that she did. She didn’t know Nikita as well as she thought that she did.
