“I love this sweater mom, but it’s too warm to wear a sweater to school,” Sabina spoke as she held out the purple sweater that had sequins sporadically in it.

“You want to buy things for when the weather changes cooler. It’s going to happen quickly now that school is going to be back in next week,” Nikita explained as she took the hanger with the sweater and sighed slightly. She was enjoying this shopping trip with Sabina.

“But it’s going to be eighty tomorrow. That’s still swimming weather,” Sabina complained as she turned back to the rack and pulled out a green sweater and wrinkled her nose. “This is ugly!”

“You don’t have to try it on,” Nikita smirked as she did agree with that sweater.

Sabina turned and looked at her mom. “Why aren’t we shopping tomorrow? You took work off today to shop on Friday.”

“Sabina, you know that your father is taking me away this weekend.”

“But I start school on Monday!” Sabina cried out and Nikita pulled out a dress and looked at Sabina. “I think you should try this one on.”

“It looks like a school uniform…. And you aren’t going to spend my last weekend before school with me?”

Nikita shook her head a she held onto the dress for Sabina to try on. “You know that your father planned this. And we will be back for dinner on Sunday.”

Sabina stepped forward and took the dress out of Nikita’s hands. “I’m not trying this on. I don’t have to wear a uniform and I shouldn’t have to try it on because you aren’t going to be here to help me get my school supplies.”

Nikita watched as Sabina put the dress back and she took a moment to calm down. “You wanted Reagan and Mick to take you shopping for those things. We are doing the clothes shopping. I thought the clothes were more important.”

“If you don’t try to dress me in a uniform,” Sabina huffed as she walked over to another rack. Nikita rolled her shoulders back and she was going to look forward to meeting up with Michael and Adam once this store was over. “You know your school almost changed to uniforms.”

“Why?” Sabina indigently spoke as she shook her head. “That’s stupid.”

“There are lots of reasons to go to uniforms Sabina. It takes the distraction away from the clothing…”

“It doesn’t,” Sabina swung her head from side to side. “Then it becomes a game of accessory and who has better shoes. Plus, clothing doesn’t make good students.”

Nikita wished that it was that simple and right now, to Sabina, it was that simple. Clothes didn’t seem to matter to her but then she had what she wanted. But Nikita also knew that she was most worried about Sabina accepting it if the school had gone to a uniform. Sabina was headstrong and she could find anything to counter a point and Nikita was sure that Sabina would have led the charge against the uniform, even at her tender age. Nikita knew that school was just going to continue to be a challenge.

“I’m trying this on,” Sabina announced as she pulled out a red dress. Nikita nodded her head as she rolled her shoulders back. “I think you have enough now.”

“I’m not done,” Sabina whined and Nikita watched as Sabina went onto another rack and picked out more. There was no way that she was getting all of this. Nikita cleared her throat and spotted the dressing room. “We are to meet up for lunch with Adam and your dad. We should try some of this on.”

“Let me start a dressing room,” The staff person spoke as she walked over to Nikita. Nikita handed over the clothes with a thank you. “When are you due?”

“February.”

“I’ll get you a chair to sit down. You look tired. I can help your daughter,” the staff person winked as she walked back to the dressing room. Nikita hadn’t realized how tired she had gotten but it wasn’t a physical tired. Sabina was just sometimes a very tiring child to be around. Nikita surely didn’t know how Reagan handled her in school.
“I’m trying this on too!” Sabina dashed towards Nikita with a long rainbow striped jacket. Nikita blinked her eyes. “That’s quite bright.”

“It’s perfect!” Sabina bounced and soon she was back in the dressing room as Nikita got to sit down with a heavy sigh. She was hungry and she regretted ever splitting up with Michael and Adam.

“Where is Sabina?” Michael asked as he placed his hands on Nikita’s shoulders. She jumped and looked back at Michael as he leaned over and kissed her forehead. “Tired?”

“She is trying things on… and yes… I think though I’m more hungry than tired,” Nikita reported and Michael chuckled. “Yeah, I had to let Adam get a hamburger… you’ve been in here a long time. Adam and I finished up and actually stopped at the game store.”

“Sabina… she has interesting taste.”

“Mmm… sounds like someone I know,” Michael whispered into Nikita’s ear as he started to rub her shoulders. “Are we going to have to get you a nap before tonight?”

Nikita’s stomach growled and she looked at Michael. “Food first.”

Michael looked at the dressing room and sighed. “Come on, Sabina… if you don’t hurry your behind up, I’ll pick your clothes for you… I really like these brown colors…”

Sabina dashed into the doorway with jeans and the purple sweater on. “Daddy! I need color!”

“That’s a pretty sweater,” Michael spoke and Nikita looked at the jeans and shook her head. “The jeans are too long… are those the bigger size?”

“I like them long,” Sabina huffed and looked at her dad. “I’ll grow into them.”

“Or you will trip and break your leg. Try the smaller ones on,” Michael directed Sabina as he saw her frown. He sighed and looked at Nikita. “Ok… so, she hasn’t been easy…”

“Adam was getting annoyed with her…. That’s why he wanted to split up,” Nikita looked at Michael and swallowed. “I need something to eat, Michael.”

Michael reached his hands up and helped Nikita to stand. “Go eat… Adam has a table. I’m sure he is on his third burger by now… I’ll get her finished up in here.”

“She is upset about us going away,” Nikita touched Michael’s elbow as she couldn’t wait to get food any longer. Michael looked after Nikita and swung his head slightly. Sabina was playing her mother.

Sabina went thru her clothing much faster with Michael pulling no punches. He paid for the clothes and then held the bags in the air. “So… you told me to take your mother away… but you are upset that we are going?”

“I didn’t know it would be this weekend!” Sabina defended herself and Michael blinked at his daughter. “Sabina.”

“I… I….”

“Don’t manipulate us, young lady. You don’t know who you are messing with,” Michael warned as he lowered the bags and allowed Sabina to carry one while exiting the store.

What would then do if their baby was like Sabina?
