“Michael, come sit down with me,” Nikita directed her husband as she looked at him in the hallway. “We reclaimed our living room.”

“And Adam is upstairs with Cinda… in his room,” Michael spoke as he looked up the stairs and Nikita chuckled. “And the door is open… and Sabina is next door. Sabina is too interested in what Adam is doing for Adam to do anything… and he isn’t going to do anything.”

Michael looked at his wife and then back up the stairs, torn. He wanted to go back up there and make sure. Although he had just come down from up there about five minutes ago.

“Michael,” Nikita chided him as she rubbed her hands across her stomach. She knew that the movement would tug him away from the stairs and she saw him move back into the living room. “You trust him.”

“He is a good boy… a good man,” Nikita took Michael’s hand and tugged him to sit down next to her. “He isn’t going to do anything stupid… even if Sabina wasn’t right next door.”

Michael shook his head and frowned. “You didn’t… see…”

Nikita smirked. “Michael, Adam knows what could happen… and there are a lot of deterrents for him doing something like that… first, he really likes Cinda.”

Michael looked at his hand in Nikita’s and closed his eyes. “I didn’t realize this was going to be so hard.”

Nikita laughed heartily that time. “Michael, he likes dealing with Sabina… but he doesn’t like it too much… and once this child is here… he is going to have enough motivation not to do something stupid.”

Michael was confused and then he shook his head as he got what Nikita was trying to say in a roundabout way. “Hormones…”

“Get you into trouble,” Nikita agreed as she swallowed tightly. “But things that are meant to happen… happen.”

That was the statement that caused Nikita’s voice to crack. Michael looked at the tears in her eyes and he cupped his hands around her and kissed her cheeks. “Kita…”

“Trust him,” Nikita whispered and Michael nodded his head up and down. If Nikita could be this strong, then he could be the same.

Michael shifted on the couch and pulled Nikita towards his body. “Did you miss me at your appointment today?”

“It wasn’t to see the baby… you made Keane do that last week,” Nikita reminded her husband as she turned her head slightly. She didn’t mind seeing her baby and knew that it was done because she had such a bad week prior to that. Not that it ever impacted the baby. Her body protected the baby first and she knew that. “And I haven’t changed my mind about finding out the sex.”

Michael kissed Nikita’s cheek and sighed. “I don’t know why I wanted it so badly last week… I’m ok with waiting.”

“None of our family is… or friends,” Nikita retorted with a snort. “Not that I care about what they want us to do.”

Michael liked that sound. Each day Nikita sounded more like herself, although she wasn’t all the way back to where she was before Adam’s injury. She still had fits in the night and she didn’t sleep all the way thru. He didn’t like it, but he knew that it was better than it had been just a short while ago.

“Keane said that I’m doing fine,” Nikita reported as she looked at Michael’s hand and turned it over in her hand, tracing his ring. “Although I’m sure that you heard that from his own lips when he called you.”

“You tapped his cell phone?”

“No,” Nikita snapped as she shook her head as she took her hand and placed it against Michael’s cheek. “I just know you… and my overprotective family and friends.”

“And you gave him permission to tell me,” Michael shrugged his shoulders and Nikita half smiled as she nodded her head. “We had just seen him last week, Michael. I didn’t need to go.”

Michael rubbed at Nikita’s shoulders and shook his head. “You had Laura do another Angel mission… and you aren’t sleeping well.”

“News notice, pregnancy does disrupt sleep,” Nikita wagged a finger, but it wasn’t quite stern. She knew that Michael spoke the truth. She sighed and leaned her head back against the couch as she snapped up the recliner. “I talked to Keane about that.”

“I agree that medicine isn’t right,” Michael concurred with the doctor before Nikita could even tell Michael. She arched an eyebrow. “Did you think I was going to say I should?”

“No.”

“Good,” Nikita rolled her eyes slightly as she was a bit put-off with the way Michael was being right now. “You know… maybe now isn’t the time to talk about this…”

“What?”

“You are distracted,” Nikita commented as she looked towards the ceiling, giving Michael and out and also seeking one herself.

She had thought about this since she left the appointment and she was almost sure that she knew what needed to be done. Not that what Nikita thought would help was going to be easy. She had even called Keane to confirm a few things and she knew that time was a factor here. Plus the holidays were coming and Adam was just starting to heal. In fact, next Monday they were going to get Adam on a stationary bike and he was very excited about that.

“Kita… I’m not distracted,” Michael firmly spoke as he turned to face her as directly as he could. “If you have to talk about this…”

“I have an idea,” Nikita blinked her eyes as she exhaled. “And we would have to travel… and we have to do that sooner than later… with the baby and all.”

“Travel?”

“Fly,” Nikita nodded her head up and down. “Keane isn’t too keen on the idea… no pun intended…”

Michael studied Nikita as he was worried about this. “If he doesn’t want you…”

“I didn’t say that,” Nikita placed her hand on Michael’s chest. “He isn’t worried about the flying. He just is worried about if this doesn’t… work.”

“What are we talking about?” Michael asked and Nikita looked at her hands and the ring on her finger. Michael would be there and she just had a sense that this was what she needed to do. “Closure.”

Michael shook his head. “Closure and flying… that’s not giving me any more details, Kita.”

“To Virginia,” Nikita looked at Michael. She saw his green eyes and jerked her head away. “I need to see her grave.”

Michael placed a hand up to Nikita’s head and kissed her head. “Kita… that might not be enough… I didn’t think this was all about her.”

Nikita closed her eyes. There was more but she didn’t dare speak about it. “He doesn’t want us to fly out and fly back… without a couple days down… I know that it is a critical time for Adam… and he could try to push his recovery too much because he thinks that he is going to get back to sports faster than we both know that he is going to get back to them…”

“Kita,” Michael spoke with a firm but gentle voice. He was now hearing her and he knew that her rapid fire speech wasn’t about he worries about Adam and it wasn’t about listening to Keane. This was her reasons for not going and doing something that she thought was going to help. Nikita jerked her head away and was about to continue, but she closed her eyes. “I… I feel… guilty…”

“About leaving Adam for doing something that is going to perhaps help all of us?” Michael asked and Nikita nodded her head up and down.

“You were just telling me that I had to trust Adam upstairs with Cinda,” Michael pointed out the irony that Nikita herself had created. It was ok to trust Adam with a girl, but it wasn’t ok to trust Adam not to overdo it? Michael hated the feeling that there was no way to stop Adam from overdoing it at some point and maybe it was better that Adam got that out of his system early on during rehab rather than later on. “We trust him.”

Nikita closed her eyes and nodded her head weakly. “And he has to learn from mistakes.”

Michael wanted to run upstairs but stopped himself. This wasn’t about Adam. That was a red herring right now. “Kita… if you really think that this closure… can help… maybe we should take Keane along.”

“I asked for that. He said that if he went, he shouldn’t be allowing me to go,” Nikita commented and she closed her eyes as she settled against Michael’s chest. “I have to do this. I want you to go too.”

“There is no way that you are going by yourself,” Michael looked at Nikita and sighed. “You already knew that.”

“Of course,” Nikita kissed his lips. “And while we are gone… I don’t think that Cinda should be allowed to be upstairs… and it will be during school so she will have to go home by eight.”

Michael kissed Nikita back and then kissed her neck. “And what should we do now?”

“I think you should go upstairs and check on the kids,” Nikita sat up and pushed the legs down on the recliner. “Got to keep them on their toes.”
